LESSON: HAVING THE RIGHT MINDSET
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: Colossians 3:2
Memory Verse: Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
INTRODUCTION
The story of the Israelites is a good example of what a difference our mindset can make. God called them out of Egypt to possess the land that He had promised them—the Promised Land—a land [of abundance] flowing with milk and honey…(Exodus 13:5 AMP). But what was supposed to be an 11-day journey ended up being a 40-year journey through the wilderness—all because they didn’t know how to think right (see Deuteronomy 1).
- REGULARLY REPLACE THE LIES: Philippians 4:13
Instead of having the mindset that says, I can’t take it when things are too hard, the truth is that with God’s help, you can do whatever you need to do in life. So, when the enemy starts to tell you that your circumstances are impossible, you’ll never make it, and you should quit, you can be confident knowing this promise from God. We have the work to do regularly so that failures will not sit in our minds. - BREAKOUT AND BE BLESSED: Matthew 5:14-15, Isaiah 60:1
Instead of letting our minds get stuck on the hard things in our life, we can think about all that God has helped us get through. And we can change our wrong mindset by putting our focus on Him. Sometimes what we need is to come out from the shell or letting your light shine so that people will favor us. Remember that kings will only come to the brightness of your rising light – Isaiah 60:3 – don’t hide your gifts because it’s your gift that makes the way through God.
Questions:
How can someone standout in the midst of intimidation and discouragements?
What do I do when I am feeling depressed?
Conclusion: However, just because we’ve clothed ourselves with Christ and have become aware of the destructiveness of negative thoughts; it doesn’t mean we’re still not susceptible to negative thinking. 1st Cor. 10:12, “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”
