THE HOLY SPIRIT INDWELLING IN THE BELIEVER

2 Corinth 6:16; Ezekiel 36 :27; Acts 6:5; Galatians 5:22 ;1 Corinth 3:16

Introduction: The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the mechanism whereby the Christian’s salvation is accomplished. It is the Holy Spirit who brings conviction to the unbeliever and causes him to see the truth of the gospel in a clear light. Those who respond to this conviction and place their faith in Jesus Christ receive eternal life and a new nature.

The Holy Spirit enables the Christian live a righteous and faithful life. The Holy Spirit indwells the true believer permanently. While the child of God may grieve the spirit, the Spirit will never leave the true believer.

A. Work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer- the Holy Spirit empowers Christians for service in many ways.

1. Wisdom
2. Understanding
3. Counsel –how can I recognize the guidance of the holy spirit. We need to know how the Holy Spirit speaks to us.
4. Fortitude – Courage in adversity
5. Knowledge – John14:26
6. Piety –reverent and show of charity

7.fear of the lord-the Holy Spirit controls the believer who yields to God and submits himself to God’s word. The believer lives in the power of the spirit and produces the fruit of the Spirit. Acts1:8, Romans 8:1- 17

8.The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts or abilities for service to every believer. 1cor 12:11

9.The Holy Spirit seals the believer. This guarantees the security of the believer until the day of redemption

10.The Holy Spirit unites the believer with Christ and places him in the body of Christ, the church. He also unites the believer with Christ in his death, enabling him to live victoriously over sin.
